Manufacturer's Description
Professional quality photo printing at A3+.
Make outstanding quality borderless prints at up to A3+ size with the Epson Stylus Photo R2880, a high specification printer that’s ideal for both professional and advanced amateur use.
The combination of Epson’s advanced UltraChrome K3 with Vivid Magenta inks and refined look-up table (LUT) algorithms allows the R2880 to more accurately match colours to ensure that every image is printed to exhibition display standards.
Pro-level colour for rich, vibrant results.
Epson’s reputation for superior photo quality combined with the advanced eight-colour UltraChrome K3 ink set with Vivid Magenta means that each print is consistently true-to-life, even with vibrant and fully saturated subjects. Support for ICC colour profiles ensures that consistent matching between calibrated screen and print is possible.
Match the vast majority of Pantone colours.
The extended colour gamut offered by the UltraChrome K3 with Vivid Magenta inkset enables the R2880 to achieve 85 percent of the Pantone colour gamut using only eight ink cartridges as opposed to the 10 or 12 used by other systems on the market. This also simplifies consumable replacement and reduces ongoing costs.
True monochrome printing.
The UltraChrome K3 ink set includes three black inks – a Matte or Photo Black depending on media choice, plus Light Black and Light Light Black, which gives unbeatable greyscale reproduction, free of colour casts, with truly neutral greys and an extremely smooth tonal gradation, ideal for portraiture.
Advanced greyscale toning via print driver.
Epson is the only printer brand to offer photographers a choice of grey tones for monochrome work, re-creating the effect of different paper and chemistry choices in traditional darkroom printing. Settings can be customised in the print driver to suit your exact preferences, saved for re-use and even shared.
Flexibility in media handling.
The R2880 brings full freedom of expression thanks to its support for a wide range of media including roll papers, fine art paper and thick, rigid media such as board or poly-board. The R2880 can print on suitable CD/DVD media too, via a special included feeder tray.
Deep and even gloss.
Prints made with the R2000 benefit from the highest-possible gloss thanks to a clear gloss optimiser in the UltraChrome HiGloss2 inkset. This is a high-density transparent resin coating that gives you a durable, ultra-smooth finish with uniform reflective characteristics across all ink colours and densities.
Custom print control.
The R2880’s printer driver is extremely easy to use and allows you complete control over the image, allowing customised media and ICC profile settings to be stored and recalled reliably for consistent and productive use. This lets you concentrate on perfecting your unique style rather than getting bogged down in print production issues or having to rely on an external lab.
Quality prints to last a lifetime.
UltraChrome K3 Ink with Vivid Magenta brings beautiful true-to-life skin tones, intense colour with a wider gamut in blues, purples and magentas, with colour shift under different lighting conditions virtually eliminated. The results stay fresh for decades, whether in an album, studio or gallery.
Connect via USB or PictBridge.
The R2880 supports direct connection via dual USB ports, allowing the printer to be simultaneously connected to two computers, or to a PictBridge-equipped digital camera for one-off or contact sheet printing via a front-mounted USB port.
Epson’s technology.
Dependable printing with Micro Piezo technology.
Epson’s Micro Piezo printhead technology gives you reliable, high-quality results that can’t be matched.
Micro Piezo works by applying an electric charge to piezoelectric elements, which causes their shape to change. This creates a pressure wave that propels the ink. Thermal-type inkjets used by Epson’s competitors work by heating the ink, causing it to expand and move through the nozzle to be fired onto the paper.
The fundamental problem with thermal inkjet technology is that it’s less robust – the ink has to survive extreme conditions, and the heater is prone to burning out. Boiling ink can leave residue deposits on the element, which over time means the printer becomes less efficient.
Avoiding all these pitfalls, Micro Piezo technology operates at room temperature, offering greater ink stability and delivering perfect control over the size and placement of each ink droplet. This enables precise and repeatable printing in which every print will be the same as the first.
And, as the Micro Piezo printhead is a permanent part of the print system, unlike other manufacturers’ printheads, it is one less consumable to dispose of.
Finer details with variable-sized droplet technology.
Every nozzle in an Epson printer can produce different droplet sizes. This is called variable-sized droplet technology (VSDT), and is made possible by the Micro Piezo component. In the Stylus Photo 1400, the minimum droplet size is 1.5 pl.
Coupled with an addressable resolution of up to 5760 x 1440 optimised dpi and Resolution Performance Management, Epson’s multiple droplet sizes result in smoother gradations when printing areas of varying tone, with smaller droplets adding clarity to fine detail. Another advantage is faster printing, with bigger droplets printing large areas of colour more quickly.
